Queensland Roads - QLD Live Traffic Map

Roadworks, Incidents & Planned Events in Queensland covering the Eastern end of the French Line and all routes into and from Birdsville. Updated every 2 hours for residential  roads and every 6 to 12 hours for rural roads.


BOM - Bureau of Meteorology 

The most accurate and up to date weather service for the region. The BOM Queensland flood alerts page also provides advice and updates in relation to flooding of Eyre Creek and the surrounding water courses within the Diamantina/Channel Country.


Marree Hotel - Website and bookings

The Marree Hotel is a remote, historic outback pub offering great accommodation, our own scenic flights, tours and interesting history. The hotel is perfectly situated close to Lake Eyre, at the junction of the legendary Oodnadatta and Birdsville Tracks, the gateway to the desert regions of the far north. Oodnadatta - Pink Roadhouse - Website

The Pink Roadhouse in Oodnadatta is where we stay during our stop over in Oodnadatta. The cabins and camp ground can be found directly behind the iconic Pink Roadhouse. The Pink Roadhouse is a licensed premises, it also offers souvenirs, takeaway food, serviced restaurant and a good selection of beers, wines and spirits.


Mount Dare Hotel

We camp at Mt Dare Hotel prior to stepping off across the Simpson Desert. Mt Dare offers paid camp sites (we pay for those) and airconditioned cabins with en-suite and shower facilities (you pay for those if you wish).

Mt Dare Hotel is ideally situated on the Western edge of the Simpson Desert just 10km south of the Northern Territory border. We are at a cross road for travellers, visit Ayers Rock (Uluru) to the west, Alice Springs to the north, Queensland via the Simpson to the east and the Oodnadatta track and the Flinders Rangers to the south.

There is a UHF Repeater (Ch 6) for your safety which covers from New Crown Homestead (north) to Stephenson Creek (south) and half way to Dalhousie, Mt Dare Hotel monitors this channel. Use it only to contact the hotel or where long distance (greater than 10 km) communication is required, NOT for vehicle to vehicle communication.


Birdsville Hotel

We arrive in Birdsville following our two day crossing of the Simpson Desert. The Birdsville Hotel offers airconditioned cabins and rooms with en-suite and shower facilities (you pay for those if you wish).

the Birdsville Hotel is where we will eat and drink and provide the pre ride briefing.

The Birdsville Hotel books out months in advance so it is advisable to book in early. If the Hotel is booked out keep checking as they often have last minute cancellations. 


Birdsville Caravan Park - Tourist Park

We arrive in Birdsville following our two day crossing of the Simpson Desert. The Birdsville Caravan Park - Tourist Park offers camp sites (We pay for those), airconditioned cabins and rooms with en-suite and shower facilities (you pay for those if you wish).

the Birdsville Tourist Park will have our campers shower and toilet facilities. 

The Birdsville Tourist Park books out months in advance so it is advisable to book in early. If the cabins and rooms at the Tourist Park are booked out keep checking as they often have last minute cancellations.

Past Outdoors is a supplier and importer for various known outdoor and camping brands including Garmin.

TACMED - First Aid equipment

TACMED Australia is a key supplier of medical and first responder equipment to emergency services agencies, militaries and government agencies world wide. TACMED is a medical supplier to the Frontline Safari. TACMED is 100% Australian veteran owned and operated. TACMED can supply attendees with adequate and well priced first aid kits and equipment. 


TRAVEL -Vehicle - Health INSURANCE 

Travel, Vehicle and Health insurance for all vehicle types, vehicle operators and passengers is a must. Check your private health fund and your vehicles insurance cover and ensure that you have not only got full comprehensive cover for your vehicle and property but also for yourself and your passengers (4wds only). Your health insurance will need to cover medical evacuation from South Australia and or Queensland - All modes (including aeromedical), make sure your health/travel insurance covers non vehicle related medical emergencies and emergency evacuation. It is no good for you if you have vehicle accident insurance cover for medical emergency recovery costs as a result of a vehicle accident if you end up requiring aeromedical evacuation following sickness, ill health or non vehicle related accident. Insurance must cover your passengers as well - 4WD entrants only. Please research and find adequate and appropriate cover prior to attending. Our insurance does not cover you and we do not cover medical evacuation as noted within our T's and C's.
